I learned from Myspace not to take social networking sites so seriously (i.e. people taking it to heart when they are not added). When I joined Facebook, I only sought out people I knew--either former schoolmates or colleagues. I denied requests from people I did not know. I hated it when people requested me just because we have mutual friends and I usually deny those as well. Some people I have deleted requested me back and I would just deny them. Requesting someone who has deleted you seems desperate to me. I can't stand trite updates, people posting the same thing over and over again like "I'm at work" or "I'm at the gym" or attention-seeking drama that should be kept offline. I have hidden the feeds of several people on my list for this reason. I think eventually another social networking site will launch and people will abandon FB the way they did Myspace.

I am glad your friend believed you and worked with you to stop her daughter's behavior. I am sure you are aware of the sad and horrific stories in the news regarding bullying that gets out of hand. It makes me angry that so many kids have to deal with this. It should not be a part of growing up.

I tried it for a while and it was so overwhelming to keep up with all of the friendships that I finally had to cut myself a break and shut it down.

This actually made me giggle:) I was doing the same thing with my daughter's Irish dancing. She moved up very quickly competitively for someone her age. I noticed that I was becoming a "stage" mom after a few competitions. Thank heavens, I got over myself and can go to enjoy the show now! lol!

My group of ladies and I having been discussing a similar issue. We want our children to remember what Christmas is really all about so we have decided to have a potluck party the Sunday before Christmas next year and gather everyone around the Christmas tree and read the real Christmas story. I have also vowed that all of the gifts we will be giving out to friends and family will be Hand made by myself and my kids this way they understand that giving should really be from the heart not from a store:)
